SPATIAL AXIS

parallels and resonance between several threads of archetypal symbolism relative to the American Continent,
chief among them the 7/4/1776 astrological signature of the United States of America (using the Maya and Western traditions),
the Great Tree and the Serpent, and how they relate to the sanctuary

ASTROLOGICAL SYMBOLISM OF THE FOUNDING DATE
OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA: 7/4/1776

NOTE on the concept of the modern nation-state:
"With origins in tribal survival, nationalism as a human organizing device started out as a reasonable enough way to service a sociological need. But the world is smaller now. Nation-states are no longer the sine qua non of group identity. The bottom line in global survival is this: our identification with our country must no longer trump our identification with the human race. Over the past couple of centuries, the vision of our shared residency on a fragile planet has begun to replace the old chauvinisms […] It is to universalism that we must now pledge our primary allegience." 1

The United States of America: a key geopolitical entity of the XXth Century and, it can be argued, the XXIth Century.

Established on the Mesoamerican sacred calendar date 9BEN (7-04-1776), a day belonging to the 13-day period CHIKCHAN. Complemented by the generic symbolism of number 9, the Maya astrological signs of BEN and CHIKCHAN operate as the primary set of energies informing the character and destiny of this nation.

Conflicting theories abound, most based on speculation for lack of hard evidence. But if no definitive conclusion has been reached the notion that America was named after the explorer Amerigo Vespucci is generally well accepted.

The ever-changing yet ever-enduring totem pole: the product of 2 centuries of intercultural exchange between Native and non-Native communities, between a rigid aboriginal tradition and a cosmopolitan syncretic outlook: a “flexible technology that continues to express shifting identities in a world consisting of Native and non-Native peoples”.

MODERN FUNCTION AND SYMBOLISM

THE MANDALA: ARCHITECTURE OF THE AMERICAS

"In America shall be erected a shrine to Universal Truth." 1

"O America! Because you build for mankind I build for you." 2

The Mandãla: a totem pole for the American tribe: a radical new form of totemic art that contributes to the preservation and furthering of the American dreamtime. What may yet be the brightest architectural incarnation of the Pan-American deity known as Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent.

A ‘monument’ (a word with Latin roots related to ‘memory’) to help us remember our Native inheritance, honor our connection to the indwelling Native spirit and its wellspring of wisdom. In this Place of Emergence is a return to our origins, a return to roots.

For the Hopi (‘People of the Corn’) and many other native cultures of the Americas, the Mandãla shall be considered Sacred Corn totem ― living image of the Power of Resurrection and Regeneration.

Planted in Native territory the sanctuary shelters this sacred tree, offered to the Native Nations of Turtle Island and beyond: an American Caduceus to bridge the rift between Old World and New World, modern technological civilization and traditional cultures. A peace staff to withstand the test of time and men. *

Today, in the bare chamber of a remote sanctuary the temporal and spatial Ultimate Authority is seated ― Quetzalcoatl once again enthroned.

Behold the great Serpent-Tree ― straight as a redwood, tall as a Statue of Liberty. Behold the great Tree of War and Peace arising from the duality of Creation. Behold Quetzalcoatl-Tezcatlipoca in the melted weave guise of the Serpent-Jaguar ― a vision of unparalleled and terrifying beauty!

The Mandãla: a Monumental Marker at yet another threshold along the grand, tragic course of American history. Caduceus demarcating “the horizon of no more horizons” 3 ― the Grand Design fulfilled; marking the transmutative threshold we stand upon and heralding a new level of vibration. The Feathered Serpent once again “rises in brilliance” like the Bennu bird ― all Serpent power and Kundalini fire.

Born 9 BEN (7-04-1776) in the Mesoamerican sacred calendar, the United States of America holds the astrological signature of the Serpent-Pillar. In direct resonance with the archetypal essence of this nation, the Mandãla inherently implies a larger family. Its pillar stands for and supports a 'United State of The Americas' ― an Axis Americani that in turn extends its truth and spiritual sustainment to all corners of the world. Axis Americani, Axis Mundi...“which, like a poem, passes right through and beyond the worlds.” 4

The Mandãla: Of the Americas, By America, For the edification of the world and beyond. E Pluribus Unum.

* Aside from the administrative/legal approval(s) needed to implement the project onto their territory,
the Navajo and Hopi Nations will be asked for their formal blessing of the sanctuary.
