If you care to sign our guest book, you will be placed on our electronic mailing list and notified of upcoming events in the Albuquerque area. In Albuquerque, New Mexico, English Regency Dancing has been active and inactive by turns since the 1980s. The informal community enjoys occasional English Regency Dancing and other frivolities. We learned our dances from the Friends of the English Regency, a group which for many years has promoted and enjoyed English Regency Dancing in California and at Science Fiction conventions the world over. (To contact the Friends of the English Regency, write to Mr. John Hertz, 236 S. Coronado St. #409, Los Angeles, CA, 90057 or send e-mail to Miss Sue Haseltine.) During the 1980s and early 1990s the Albuquerque community chose to call themselves the Georgian Society because some members enjoyed the elaborate dress of the mid-late 18th century as well as that of the early 19th century. After hosting a number of events culminating in an Assembly for the Friends of the English Regency in 1989, the Georgian Society fell dormant for several years. In 1996 the group decided to host a ball, and began informal dance practices to prepare. On May 5, dancers gathered at the La Posada Hotel Ballroom for a delightful evening of dancing, good food, and good company. Another ball was held at La Posada on January 5, 1997, and shortly afterward the group became inactive again. Dance practices are beginning again. The current location is the New Mexico Ballet Company's studio, 4200 Wyoming Blvd. NE Suite B2 in Albuquerque New Mexico. Please bring dancing slippers or dance shoes to change into, as street shoes are not allowed on the studio floors. A contribution of $3 per person (or $5 per couple) is requested to help cover the cost of the space. For more information, use our contact form to send a message to dance organizers. ![]() Photo by Chris Krohn The May Ball's success (as seen above) was followed by an equally delightful Winter Ball. Regency Dancing of the style used by the Friends
of the English Regency is owed to the skill and knowledge of the FotER's
Choreographer, Mr. John Hertz. Instructions for the dances are available
in his booklet, The Tenor of Terpsichore. Tapes of the music for these
dances are available from Mr. Hertz or from the Friends of the English
Regency. If you would like further information about the dances and music,
